Welcome to Stephen Enger Photography, my corner of the Web to share images made during past, current, and (God willing) future wanderings with a camera.
My first camera was a Diana 120 roll-film camera that came as a 'free' gift from the company that sided our old farmhouse. It was plastic, equipped with THREE aperture settings for great control, and leaked light like a sieve, but I loved it! It got me out and pointing it at things of interest, and planted a seed that only grew from there. Several years later my parents gave me an entry-level 35mm SLR (a Sears-branded Ricoh, I believe) and my photographic journey began in earnest. That was in 1978, and I have been seeking to capture slices of the world and of time ever since, and I am still learning and still seeking.
The equipment has changed a lot (now 100% digital since 2006) but my desire to share what moved me or excited me when I snapped the shutter has not! In those early days of shooting, I had the thrill of seeing a photo come to life in the oversized closet I made into a darkroom, or opening that yellow box of slides or packet of glossy color 4x6 inch prints from Kodak. Today I am still thrilled to see a photograph spring to life on my large monitor after off-loading a memory card and reviewing and tweaking in Lightroom or similar apps. Even more important, I am still happy sharing the captures with anyone who will have a look in hopes of sharing the joy, wonder and sometimes awe of one of those captured moments in time and place.
You will quickly see here that I consider the most important credit on every photo belongs to our heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. The One who made everything, of course made the subject of every one of my photographs, and is also why I am still here to point a camera- so my praise and thanksgiving will always be first to our God and our Savior. Amen.
I hope you will come along!
